Long forgotten were the days when Full Stop and Comma enjoyed a cordial relationship—so cordial that they were husband and wife.
Their former relationship was something of a legend—a story Grammarians often repeated that was too incredible to be taken seriously. The only testimony and living proof of their former union was Semicolon, their son, who somehow managed to be a replica of them both.
Semicolon seemed unaffected by the battle between his parents. He performed his administrative duties at the family company, Sentence Construction Company Limited, without displaying loyalty to either parent. He steadfastly resisted their attempts to have him undergo shape surgery to make him resemble either of them more closely.
In Comma’s defence, she suggested shape surgery only after hearing of Full Stop’s grand scheme to perform a reversal operation on Semicolon to turn him upside down so his dot could be on the bottom, like any self-respecting Mark. Comma wanted Semicolon to rid himself of the dot altogether.
